Scalapack Installation

How to get it:

• sources at Netlib
• prebuilt for HP-UX 9.05 at Netlib
• Prebuilt for HPPA 2.0 (on SPP-UX) at HP's MLIB page

Verification:

• lots of self tests for all layers
• many failures with HP's prebuilt version
• partly due to BLACS initialisation problems
• less problems with own version

Comparison compiled version/HP-prebuilt:

• used optimization flags: +O3 +Odataprefetch +Onofltacc
• doesn't use LAPACK sources included in Scalapack

• possible reasons:
  • HP-Lapack is slower than the included standard lapack
  • the new compiler versions of f90, cc produce slower code than the old ones
  • HP programmers have done a very good optimization job two years ago
